Banarpal: A minor girl was killed on the spot today and her father sustained grievous injuries as a speeding truck rammed into a motorcycle from behind, on which they were travelling, in front of a hospital near Banarpal police station in Angul district.
The deceased girl was identified as Shatabdi Suman Panda and her father as Satya Narayan Panda, from Khalua village of Talcher locality of the district.
As per an FIR lodged by the deceased’s family, Shatabdi had come from Bhubaneswar and alighted from a private bus at Banarpal. Later, the girl travelled on the ill-fated motorcycle (registration number OD-19 J-4073) along with her father to their home, when they met with an accident.
The speeding truck (registration number ORP 4408) which was on its way from Angul to Talcher hit the motorcycle leading to the untimely death. The girl got crushed in the incident, the FIR stated.
On being informed, Banarpal police reached the accident site and seized the body. Police have seized the two vehicles and initiated a detailed probe into the road mishap.
“The minor was rescued and rushed to a community health centre (CHC) in Banarpal, where doctors declared her ‘dead’,” a senior police official expressed.
Critically injured Satya Narayan is undergoing treatment at the government-run health facility.
Meanwhile, local tehsildar Sushant Kumar Mishra reached the hospital and gave assistance money of Rs 10,000 to the family on behalf of the district Administration.
