Bhubaneswar: A Class-VI girl was allegedly gangraped by two teachers at a government-run residential school in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district recently.
Kundei police in Nabarangpur today arrested the accused teachers after registering a case in this regard, sources said.
According to police, the two teachers allegedly gangraped the girl after luring her to a toilet block on the premises of the educational institute during school hours on November 7.
However, the incident came to light when the girl’s family lodged a complaint in this regard with police on November 9 (yesterday).
The police had detained the accused duo yesterday. The victim has been admitted to Nabarangpur district headquarters hospital (DHH), sources said.
Taking the incident seriously, the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has sought a report in this regard from the Nabarangpur Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO)-cum-Public Health Officer (PHO) within four weeks.
The OHRC has also directed the CDMO to ensure proper treatment for the victim.
“If there is any need to refer the victim to any premier health institute, the expenses shall be borne by the government,” said the OHRC in its order.
In a related development, Subrat Kumar Dash of Nyaya Painee Ladhei Pariwar in Odisha, has lodged a petition in connection with the alleged gangrape with the National Human Rights Commissioner (NHRC).
The petitioner sought the NHRC intervention for ensuring stern action against the accused teachers and a compensation of Rs 30 lakh to the victim’s family.
