Deep depression over Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast likely around Nov 17; IMD issues wind, rain warning – N.F Times


Bhubaneswar: The existing low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal may intensify into a depression and further into a deep depression, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted today.

“A Low Pressure Area has formed over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining Andaman & Nicobar Islands. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a Depression over Westcentral Bay of Bengal on 15th November. Thereafter, it would move northwestwards and may intensify into a Deep Depression over Westcentral Bay of Bengal off Andhra Pradesh coast on 16th November. Subsequently, it would recurve north-northeastwards and reach Northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast on 17th November,” the IMD said in its bulletin.

The agency has issued wind and rainfall warning for Odisha in connection with the system.

Wind warning for along & off Odisha coast: Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely during 15th November evening. It is likely to increase gradually becoming 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph from 16th November morning and 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph from 16th November evening for subsequent 24 hours.

Rainfall warning: Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Puri and heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Khurda, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Jajpur, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal and Nayagarh on November 16.

Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal and Kendrapara on November 17.
