Mahakalpara: A youth was killed on the spot and his elder brother sustained grievous injuries today morning at around 7.00 am as a motorcycle on which they were travelling was hit by a speeding iron ore-laden truck from behind near Jadupur on Chandikhol-Paradip road in Kendrapara district.
The deceased youth was identified as Chinmaya Barik and his elder brother as Sanjaya Barik. The duo is from Karanja village. They were on their way to Paradip when the duo met with an accident.
According to an eyewitness, the speeding truck ran over Chinmaya leading to his untimely death. Driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle and hit the two youths on NH-53 and one of them died.
Driver of the iron ore-laden truck fled from the spot along with the vehicle, the eyewitness added.
Some locals rescued the injured in critical condition and admitted him to district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Kendrapara town for treatment. On being informed, local police reached the spot and seized Chinmaya’s body and sent it to the hospital for post-mortem. Police have initiated a detailed probe.
