Odisha youth set ablaze for demanding to repay debt, battling for life – N.F Times


The victim was identified as Anjan Padhy. He is undergoing treatment in a critical condition at the district headquarters hospital. 


Bhawanipatna:  In a horrifying incident, a man suffered critical burn injuries after an acquaintance who had borrowed money from him allegedly set him on fire in Bhawanipatna in Odisha’s Kalahandi district on Wednesday.

The victim was identified as Anjan Padhy. He is undergoing treatment in a critical condition at the district headquarters hospital.

As per reports, Anjan was staying in a rented accommodation behind a diesel tank near Kasakendu Chowk here. He had lent Rs 2 lakh money to an acquaintance. However, the latter was not returning his money even after frequent reminders.

On Wednesday, the accused asked Anjan to meet him near the tank to give back his money. When Anjan reached, the man suddenly attacked him and in a bid to immolate him, set him on fire by pouring diesel on him.

The accused then fled the spot. Suffering serious injuries, Anjan was rushed to the DHH by locals. He is being treated by doctors and is critical, hospital sources said.

Till reports last came in, no police complaint had been filed yet.
