Patha Utsav to make a comeback in Odisha capital – N.F Times

Bhubaneswar: There is a piece of good news for youngsters in the Odisha capital here. Patha Utsav, the street festival, is all set to make a comeback very soon.

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) passed a resolution in this regard at its council meeting today.

The BMC will take the necessary steps to hold Patha Utsav on December 10 and two Sundays of January next year, said an official.

“The street festival will be organized under the three zones of city on different dates. A committee will be formed for smooth organization of Patha Utsav. Steps will be taken to introduce something new in these street festivals,” said Mayor Sulochana Das.

Notably, the BMC had introduced Patha Utsav in the city here a few years ago to make people aware of various social and civic issues.

Hundreds of people from all walks of life used to throng a stretch of the Janpath from Ram Mandir Square to Master Canteen Square in the early morning of Sundays to witness various cultural events at the street festival.

However, the street festival was discontinued due to Covid-19 pandemic and some other reasons. The civic authorities organized Patha Utsav for a few times during the Men’s Hockey World Cup in Odisha in January this year.

The BMC council meeting also decided to strengthen the waste disposal system in the city. Besides, steps will be taken for converting all Kutcha roads to Pucca ones at the earliest, said the official.

“All Kalyan Mandaps (community centres) of the BMC will be transformed. Similarly, steps will be taken for renovation of the cremation grounds in the city with lighting, drinking water, toilet, rest shed and other facilities,” he added.
