Boudh: A police sub-Inspector was caught red-handed by a team of Vigilance sleuths for accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 through PhonePe (an online payment gateway) in a vehicle seizure case under Baunsuni police limits in Boudh. The cop presently works in Baunsuni police station of the district.
According to Vigilance sources, a vehicle was earlier seized in connection with an illegal Ganja (cannabis) transportation case. The cop identified as Bikram Dehuri had accepted the bribe money to release the seized vehicle. “Despite the vehicle owner producing a court order for the release, Dehuri demanded and accepted Rs 15,000 from the complainant,” a Vigilance official stated.
Subsequently, the vehicle owner lodged a complaint with the Vigilance department, acting on which, a trap was laid leading to the seizure of entire bribe money and house searches as well.
Following the seizure, Vigilance sleuths also launched simultaneous raids at different places associated with the sub-Inspector, which were underway till the time when this report was filed.
The three places where searches are being carried out include Dehuri’s office room, his government residence, and a residential building owned by him and located in Purunakatak of Boudh district.
