Bhubaneswar: The Winter Session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly commenced today.
As the House assembled for the session, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik moved condolence motion on the demise of several former members of the Assembly, including Maheswar Mohanty. Opposition parties BJP and Congress supported the motion.
Members of the House then observed one-minute silence for the departed souls.
Speaker Pramila Mallik later adjourned the House for the day.
Earlier today, G Udayagiri MLA Saluga Pradhan became the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly.
The BJD MLA was elected as the Deputy Speaker uncontested as the Opposition parties hadn’t fielded any candidate.
He had yesterday filed nomination for the post after the party announced him as its candidate for the Deputy Speaker election.
