Odisha reports first COVID-19 +ve case amid new sub-variant scare – N.F Times



Bhubaneswar: Amid the rise of COVID-19 cases due to a new sub-variant, Odisha reported its first positive case today, according to a state-wise status uploaded by the Centre today.

Over 200 samples were tested yesterday, of which one test result came positive for COVID-19.

As per the information, the patient is undergoing treatment at home and the health condition is stated to be normal.

Total 3,420 cases are active across the country with a maximum from Kerala.

Yesterday, Odisha Health Department appealed to people to undergo tests if they have symptoms.

Notably, the active caseload has significantly increased in the country with the emergence of JN.1, a sub-variant of the BA 2.86 Omicron strain of the COVID-19 virus.

The WHO has declared the new COVID sub-variant as the ‘Variant of Interest’, which is linked to the surge in cases in the US, Malaysia and Singapore.
