Bhubaneswar: A notorious criminal sustained bullet injuries in an encounter with the Mancheswar Police in Odisha capital, late last night.
The accused, identified as Raghu Biswal, was initially admitted to the Capital Hospital here for treatment and later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
As per official sources, a team of Mancheswar Police, acting on a tip-off regarding suspicious movement of two persons near Barimund road, reached the place.
On realising about the arrival of the cops, Raghu and his associate tried to escape by fleeing towards Nandankanan side on a motorcycle. As the police team started chasing the two, one of them opened fire at the cops near Balijatra Ground here.
As police retaliated in defence, a bullet hit Raghu on his leg. However, his associate managed to escape.
Police have seized the motorcycle, a pistol and other articles from his possession.
Several cases, including those of gun violence, are pending against Raghu in various police stations.
