Bhubaneswar: Nayagarh Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) Panchanan Behera was today arrested by the Odisha Vigilance on charges of possessing disproportionate assets (DA).
Behera was found possessing disproportionate assets to the tune of 293 per cent of his known sources of income. He has been produced in the court Special Vigilance Judge in Bhubaneswar, said an official.
Behera could not give any satisfactory accounts for his disproportionate assets. The Vigilance department has registered a case against Behera and his spouse under various Sections of Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, added the official.
The Vigilance sleuths have unearthed assets to the tune or crores from the possession of Behera and his family members during house searches. The list includes:
1-One double-storey building with area over 3,000 square feet at Sailashree Vihar in Bhubaneswar
2-One single-storey building with area over 2,400 square feet at Satya Vihar in Bhubaneswar
3-As many as 31 plots, including 10 Benami, in prime locations in Bhubaneswar
4-Bank and insurance deposits worth Rs 72.80 lakh
5-Cash, gold and household articles worth Rs 15 lakh
6-Expenditure over Rs 50 lakh made by Behera towards the medical education (MBBS) of his son at a private institute in Bhubaneswar
7-Four Benami vehicles, including one four-wheeler and three two-wheelers
Behera was found possessing disproportionate assets to the tune of 293 per cent to his known sources of income after through search and inventory of his expenditure and assets, said the official.
