Rare species of bird rescued in Odisha’s Khurda district – N.F Times



Bhubaneswar: A rare species of bird was rescued from Tangi area in Odisha’s Khurda district today.

The bird, identified as white-bellied sea eagle, was found on the premises of Chandeswar Jagannath temple near Tangi today morning.

Some local youths rescued the rare bird, locally known as ‘Kurubal’, and kept it in a cage, sources said.

On being informed, the officials of the Forest department reached the village and took possession of the bird.

“White-bellied sea eagle is a rare species of bird. The nests of this species of bird have been spotted at a few places in Odisha,” said a source in the Forest department.

The nests of white-bellied sea eagle have been spotted at Satapada in Puri, Rambha in Ganjam and Sholeri and Kalupada in Khurda district recently. All these places are close to Chilika lake, it added.
