Angul: An elderly woman was killed by her son today by hacking her to death with a wooden baton after the beneficiary refused to give her old-age pension money to the accused at Mugamala Sahi of Ghosara village under Kishorenagar police limits in Angul district.
The deceased elderly woman was identified as 70-year-old Pankajini Pradhan from the village.
According to a source, the accused identified as Abani Pradhan was in an inebriated condition. He asked his mother for the pension money earlier in the day. Things took an ugly turn when in a fit of rage, he attacked his mother after the elderly woman refused to part with the money.
Abani later buried his mother in an open well located at the backside of his house.
Pankajini’s brother Manoj was tipped off about the mishap by a local, and in turn, he lodged an FIR with Kishorenagar police in this connection. Acting on the FIR, police arrested Abani and launched a probe, which is underway. Police have exhumed the body and sent it for post-mortem.
“We are awaiting a post-mortem report to ascertain the death,” a senior cop said.
