Bhitarkanika National Park reopens for visitors – N.F Times



Kendrapara: The Bhitarkanika National Park in Odisha’s Kendrapara district reopened for visitors today after remaining closed from January 5 to 13 in view of counting of saltwater crocodiles.

The census was conducted in five ranges and carried out by teams comprising of Forest Department staffers and experts.

The saltwater crocodile population has gone up marginally, this year.

As many as 1,811 estuarine crocodiles were found at Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary and its nearby areas.

The Forest department officials had spotted a total of 1,793 crocodiles at the wildlife sanctuary during a census, last year.
