Bhubaneswar: Several voluntary organisations have planned to light up over 1 lakh earthen lamps (Diya) on Mahanadi riverbanks in Odisha’s Sambalpur to celebrate the consecration of Ram Lalla idol at Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh on January 22.

Voluntary orgnisations including Marwadi Yuva Manch, Hanuman temple committee, Mahila Naba Chetana, Veer Bajrangi, Parasuram Bhawan and Brahmana Mahila Samiti will light up as many as 1,11,111 earthen lamps on the banks of Mahanadi in Sambalpur on the auspicious occasion, sources said.

“We will offer the lamps on Mahanadi banks to celebrate the consecration of Ram Lalla idol at Ayodhya. It is a historic occasion. We all are eagerly waiting for the auspicious occasion,” said a devotee.

The voluntary outfits have sourced the earthen lamps from several potters in and around the western Odisha city.

“We have sourced the lamps from 8 to 10 places in and around Sambalpur. We will wash the lamps with water before offering them on January 22,” said another devotee.

The voluntary outfits have also invited nine priests from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh to perform Mahanadi Aarti on the occasion. “We will distribute sweets among the people after lighting the lamps on Mahanadi riverbanks,” said member of a voluntary organization in Sambalpur.
