Odisha: Centenarian freedom fighter Nilamani Samal passes away – N.F Times



Bhubaneswar: Noted freedom fighter from Odisha, Nilamani Samal, today breathed his last at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Samal (102) passed away while being treated at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Medicine ward at SCBMCH, sources said.

The centenarian freedom fighter, a resident of Balichandrapur area in Jajpur district, was suffering from old-age related complications for last several days.

He was admitted to the Medicine ward of SCBMCH a few days ago.

Samal had been imprisoned for three years by the British government in India during the freedom struggle. He was working as the president of freedom fighters’ association in Odisha, sources said.

The veteran freedom had been conferred with the Presidential awards twice.
