Odisha: Newborn girl abandoned at Capital Hospital – N.F Times

Bhubaneswar: A newborn girl was allegedly abandoned by her parents at Capital Hospital here today.

The newborn baby had been admitted to the government health facility in the Odisha capital here by her parents—Prashanta Nayak and Mamata Nayak of Khandapada area in Nayagarh—a few days ago.

The premature baby, weighing around 860 gram only, was brought to Capital Hospital by her parents in a critical condition. She was of 19-days-old at the time of her admission, sources said.

The baby girl is being treated at the special newborn care units (SNCUs) of the hospital. She has been transfused with two units of blood within a few days, hospital sources said.

“We were providing the health updates of the newborn girl to her parents regularly. However, we could not trace them today morning. We tried to contact the couple over phone but in vain,” said a senior official of the hospital.

The hospital management has informed the incident to their departmental higher authorities and police.

“The baby girl’s parents had submitted all valid documents during her admission at the hospital. We do not know the reason behind her abandonment,” added the hospital.
