LAccMI bus recruitment ‘scam’: 2 held for seeking bribes from aspirants in Odisha’s Balangir – N.F Times


Bhubaneswar: The police in Balangir district of Odisha have blown the lead off an alleged scam in the recruitment of staffers for buses deployed under the LAccMI scheme of the state government.

The police have arrested two persons on charges of collecting Rs 25,000 as bribe from each of the aspirants on promise of arranging conductor jobs in LAccMI buses.

The arrested have been identified as Saroj Lima of Gunupur Housing Board Colony in Rayagada district and Benugopal Behera of Dhubapara in Kantabanji area of Balangir.

The police have seized a four-wheeler, a mobile phone and Rs 4,700 in cash from the arrested persons, said Titlagarh SDPO Ankita Kumbhar today.

The arrested duo has been produced in a local court, she added.

A few days ago, it had been alleged that some people were seeking Rs 25,000 as bribe from each aspirants for recruitment of conductors in the LAccMI buses in Balangir. A video in this regard went viral on social media, sources said.

Besides, some people were allegedly collecting money from aspirants at a place in Balangir recently. The locals reportedly detained the bribe seekers and handed them over to police. However, the police did not initiate any action against the bribe seekers, sources said.

As per the direction of Balangir SP Rishikesh Khilari, Titlagarh police had formed a special team to probe the alleged recruitment scam.

“How could some people seek bribe for recruitment of staffers in the LAccMI buses? Who has engaged these people to collect money from aspirants? Who is the real owner of the car seized from the arrested duo? We hope that the police will look into all these angles while probing the case,” said a local.
