While the identities of the deceased have not been confirmed yet, it is suspected that the bodies are of the two youths who went missing a few days back.

Nilagiri: Nearly five days after two youths went missing in Nilagiri block of Odisha’s Balasore district, their bodies were reportedly found floating in an abandoned quarry in Machua village here today. While the identities of the deceased have not been confirmed yet, it is suspected that the bodies are of the two youths who went missing a few days back.

On February 5, Bhabani Shankar (22) and Manoranjan (21) of Kansa village told their respective families that they were going to Mitrapur. When it got late and they did not return, family members tried to contact them. But their mobile phones were switched off. The following day, locals spotted their two-wheeler and shoes with blood stains near the water body.  Family members had subsequently reached out to the police alleging murder.

According to Manoranjan’s elder brother, the two youths left home at around 5.30 PM and did not return by night. At around 10.00 PM, the worried family members contacted him over his mobile phone but to no avail, as it showed ‘switched off’. The next morning they heard about the motorcycle.

“After I reached here, I saw that the motorcycle of my younger brother was parked. Blood stains spotted in nearby areas raised my suspicion that he has been killed.Someone has killed my brother and thrown him into the water body,” Soumyaranjan Mohapatra had claimed.

Following the incident, a search operation by ODRAF had been initiated to trace the bodies.
