Balangir: The grisly murder of a six-month old baby boy by the mother in Odisha’s Balangir district took a new turn today with the accused woman confessing the crime before police and attributing her actions to distress over her husband’s extra-marital affair.
The accused woman, Meena Nag (38) was arrested on Friday from Khaliapali village within Puintala police limits here after she allegedly killed her infant son by slitting his throat. Family members had rushed the baby to the nearest hospital for treatment and later, to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital but doctors declared the child dead on arrival.
Police on getting information had started an investigation. Initially, Nag’s husband had claimed that she was mentally unstable and undergoing treatment. But her statement to the police today made the case murkier as she claimed that she committed the act after being subjected to domestic abuse and coming to know of her husband’s extra marital affairs.
Further investigation is underway. The incident, which took place, has sent shockwaves across the area.
