College student goes missing in Siltiguda Dam water in Odisha – N.F Times


The youth was identified as Chaitanya Kumar, a student of Utkal Gourav Madhusudan Institute of Technology (UGMIT).


Rayagada: A 19-year old student of a government polytechnic diploma engineering institution went missing while taking a bath in the river at Siltiguda Dam in Odisha’s Rayagada district on Sunday. The youth was identified as Chaitanya Kumar, a student of Utkal Gourav Madhusudan Institute of Technology (UGMIT). He was a resident of Saipriya Nagar in Rayagada.

As per reports, Chaitanya had gone with nine friends to the dam for a picnic on Sunday. Some of them were playing cricket when he ventured into the waters. However, when others did not find him, they searched for him in the water body but to no avail.

Police and fire services on getting information, reached the place and started search operations. Further details are awaited.

Addressing mediapersons, Rayagada Tehsildar Priyadrashini Swain said a group of nine students had come for a feast to the dam. “One of them went missing after he stepped into the waters for a swim. Rescue operation has started. ODRAF personnel will also be roped in. We will follow the due procedure once the boy is traced,” she added.

“We received information about the incident at around 8 pm. Since it was dark, rescue work was not possible. We started the operations at around 6 am today,” fire personnel informed.
