Bhubaneswar: Odisha 5T Chairman VK Pandian today made an announcement regarding Nua-O Magic Smart Card for eligible students in the state. He was addressing a gathering at a Nua-O event in Jajpur district.
By the month of August, Nua-O Magic Smart Cards will be given to all eligible students. The cards will provide them benefits like discount on bus/ train travel, free Wi-Fi, access of online courses, skill development, coaching programs etc. based on performance and participation in various academic and extra-curricular activities, said Pandian.
He also announced the Nua-O scholarships for Plus-III and PG students in Odisha. As per the announcement, boys will get Rs 9,000 each while girls will receive Rs 10,000 each as scholarships, per year.
Students belonging to eligible SC/ ST and Nirman Shramik Families will get Rs 10,000 (boys) and Rs 11,000 (girls), per year.
The amount will be transferred to the bank accounts of the eligible students between February 20 and 25.
However, students whose parents pay income tax or are permanent government employees will not be eligible for the scholarship.
A Nua-O corpus fund of Rs 300 crore will be constituted from the upcoming academic year. Students excelling in academic and different co-curricular activities will get higher amount as scholarship from this corpus fund, he said.
It is expected that about 4.5 lakh UG students and around 32,000 PG students will be benefited from the Nua-O scholarships scheme of the state government.
