The seven year-old boy Bikas, son of Siddha and Phul Marndi of Chhotaraypur within Udala police limits, was found running away in a distressed state by some local youths who rescued him.
Baripada/Udala: In yet another instance of superstitious beliefs continuing to perpetuate practices like human sacrifice, a minor boy had a narrow escape after his parents reportedly made an attempt to kill him as an ‘offering to a local goddess in Kaptipada in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district today.
The seven year-old boy Bikas, son of Siddha and Phul Marndi of Chhotaraypur within Udala police limits, was found running away in a distressed state by some local youths who rescued him.
As per reports, the accused parents told the boy they were taking him to his maternal uncle’s place. Instead they took him to Kukundarani Hudi near a hill in Nudadiha area where they attempted the human sacrifice before the goddess. The boy claimed that his parents put a knife on his throat during the rituals but he somehow managed to escape from the spot.
Some youths found the boy wandering alone and rescued him. On asking, the minor narrated the entire incident. But when the locals tried to track the parents, the latter had fled.
