2 days after quitting Congress party in Odisha, former Rajanagar MLA Anshuman Mohanty joins BJD – N.F Times



Bhubaneswar: Two days after quitting the Congress party in Odisha, former Rajanagar MLA Anshuman Mohanty along with his supporters joined the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Friday.

Anshuman, the son of late Odisha minister Nalinikanta Mohanty, joined BJD in the presence of party’s general secretary (organisation) Pranab Prakash Das, ministers Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak and Pratap Dev, Rajya Sabha MP Manas Mangaraj, Kendrapara BJD observer Pratap Jena and Rajanagar MLA Dhrubacharan Sahu at Sankha Bhawan here.

Soon after joining BJD, Anshuman met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at his residence.

“The developmental works undertaken by the BJD government in Odisha have inspired former Rajanagar MLA Anshuman Mohanty to join the party. Anshuman’s father Nalinikanta was a close associate of legendary leader and former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik,” said the BJD organizational general secretary.

Anshuman thanked the Chief Minister and senior leaders of BJD for accepting him in the regional party.

Anshuman had been elected to Odisha Legislative Assembly from Rajanagar constituency in Kendrapara on a Congress ticket in 2014. However, he got defeated in the 2019 Assembly elections in the state.

Anshuman had resigned from the Congress party on February 14. He was working as the president of Kendrapara district Congress committee.
