Bhubaneswar: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) today reportedly seized a Fortuner SUV and Rs 9 lakh from the house of Bhandaripokhari MLA Prafulla Samal’s son Prayaskanti.
However, the vehicle has been registered in the name of Trishna Skyscraper Limited, a construction company. The agency was probing into the purchase of the costly SUV, reports said.
The vehicle and cash were seized from Prayaskanti’s house located at Palashpalli in Bhubaneswar.
Yesterday, the ED had carried out simultaneous raids at multiple places linked to the legislator and his son. The searches were carried out in Bhadrak town and Bhubaneswar.
The matter pertains to the alleged misappropriation of funds by the management of Bhadrak Institute of Engineering and Technology (BIET) in Barapada. Prayaskanti is the president of BIET.
He is accused of embezzling the funds of BIET and buying properties worth crores of rupees in Bhubaneswar.
The ED had also raided the property of a builder having links with Prayaskanti.
Further probe by the agency was underway.
