2 dead, 1 more critically injured in separate incidents of road mishap in Odisha districts – N.F Times



Tigiria/Hirakud: Two persons were killed on the spot and one more sustained grievous injury in separate incidents of road mishap that took place in Cuttack and Sambalpur districts, today.

The first incident was reported from Panchagaon Chhak under Tigiria police limits in Cuttack district. The deceased was identified as Urmila Sahoo, who belonged to Nua Mangarajpur village under Badamba police limits. Her younger brother-in-law has been identified as Kanhu Charan Sahoo.

Urmila and her brother-in-law were on their way on a motorcycle to Cuttack town when they met with an accident leading to her untimely death. A Hyva truck hit their motorcycle from the front.

On being informed, a team of Tigiria police reached the spot and seized the body. Police have detained the driver of the truck and launched a probe into the road mishap, which is underway.

Urmila’s body was sent to a government-run hospital in Athagarh for post-mortem.

In the second fatal incident, a speeding truck ran over a man in front of the Hirakud petrol pump today morning in Sambalpur district. The identity of the deceased man has not been ascertained yet.

Tension was triggered in the nearby areas following the road mishap and hundreds of incensed locals staged a roadblock demanding adequate compensation to the deceased’s next of kin.
