Will contest 2024 polls from Cuttack-Barabati seat: Mohammed Moquim after HC annuls his election – N.F Times

Cuttack: While the Orissa High Court today annulled the election of Mohammed Moquim as Cuttack-Barabati MLA, the Congress leader said he will contest the upcoming assembly polls from the same constituency.

“I will examine the verdict of the High Court and challenge it, if needed. The decision of the court will not impact the fact that I will contest the 2024 assembly elections from Cuttack-Barabati seat. I am always with the people of the constituency,” he said.

I had furnished correct affidavits for the 2019 polls, he added.

Notably, the High Court’s move came while hearing a petition filed by BJD leader Debashish Samantaray, who had challenged the election of Moquim alleging that the MLA suppressed facts with respect to the criminal cases pending against him while filing his nomination papers.

Samantaray had further alleged in the petition that Moquim did not disclose correct facts about his assets and liabilities.

Worth mentioning, Samantaray had lost to Moquim in the Cuttack-Barabati assembly constituency in the 2019 polls.
