Odisha’s Nandankanan Zoo to add new species – N.F Times



Bhubaneswar: The Nandankanan Zoological Park, Bhubaneswar, will add new species to its habitat under the animal exchange programme.

As approved by the Central Zoo Authority, New Delhi, the NZP will bring Gangetic Softshell turtle (2:2), Great White pelican (2:2), Himalayan griffin vulture (2:2), Greater Adjutant stork(2:2) from Assam State Zoo and Botanical garden, Guwahati in exchange of Painted stork (2:2), Mandarin duck (1:1), Spot billed pelican (2:2), Blackbuck (2:3), Back headed ibis (10:10).

A five-member team including Veterinary surgeon Dr T Vikram, Forester Arup Kumar Rout, Animal keeper Braja Kishore Sahoo, outsourced staff Sapan Kumar Das, Umesh Kumar Bhoi headed for Assam today to receive the animals. They are expected to reach Nandankanan with the animals by March 21.
