Tigiria: As many as five persons sustained grievous injuries today as two factions supporting different political parties indulged in a group clash at Belaanta village of Bhogada panchayat under Tigiria police limits in Cuttack district.

The incident was fallout of past enmity and the injured persons belong to a particular faction. One of the injured is a local sarpanch’s representative identified as Arun Kumar Nayak. However, the number of injured persons from the other faction has not been ascertained yet.

Five injured were rescued and initially sent to a health facility in Tigiria. They were later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack after their condition deteriorated.

Keeping in mind the palpable tension prevalent in the nearby villages, a police team led by local SDPO Rabindra Kumar Mallick has been deployed to avert any untoward situation.
