Sick tusker dies in forest of Ghumusar North division in Odisha’s Ganjam – N.F Times

Bhanjanagar: An ailing tusker, previously spotted while roaming near a creek, died today morning in Karadabani-Beruabadi area under Tilisingi section of Ghumusar (north) forest division in Ganjam.

On being informed, Forest personnel reached the spot and observed the pachyderm’s movement. It was ascertained that the elephant had been sick for the last several days. Allegedly, the jumbo was not attended and medical care was not provided on an urgent basis, which could have saved the animal.

Before its untimely death, the elephant was seen standing near the creek for quite long hours.

“Local divisional forest officer (DFO) and other senior officials remained busy as there was a felicitation ceremony organised on the occasion of a Forest department employee’s retirement. Hence, the tusker was not provided necessary medical treatment at its critical times,” some residents of Beruabadi village alleged.

Worth mentioning, a post-mortem of the tusker’s carcass will be carried out tomorrow morning.
