5 of family critically injured as LPG cylinder blasts in Odisha’s Angul – N.F Times



Angul: As many as five persons belonging to a family sustained grievous injuries today after an LPG cylinder blasted at Patana Sahi of Talamula village in Angul district.

The five critically injured have been identified as a woman Sumitra Sahoo (48), her husband Sarbeswar Sahoo (55), Babula Sahoo (48), son Ranjit Sahoo, and nephew Sangram Sahoo. Another woman who had minor injuries in the incident has been identified as Tapaswini Sahoo.

According to a source, the fatal blast occurred when Sumitra was frying pieces of fish in her kitchen. She later detected a leakage of cooking gas and immediately alerted her son. Sangram came to her rescue and, in a hurry, he attempted to throw the cylinder outside the kitchen. Unfortunately, the cylinder bounced back and blasted inside the room leaving the family members critically injured.

Some locals rescued the injured and rushed them to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Angul town for treatment. Three of them were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after their condition deteriorated, the source added.
