Jajpur: A middle-aged woman sarpanch identified as Sipalata Mallick was spotted dead while hanging in her house at Dalitsahi under Jenapur police limits in Jajpur district, today.
Sipalata was elected as the sarpanch of Jenapur panchayat in 2022. She was the wife of Sukadev Mallick and is survived by a son and a daughter.
According to a source, the deceased’s brother Bholanath Mallick got a phone call from his brother-in-law Sukadev and reached the village. He found the sarpanch hanging with the help of a rope.
The exact cause of Sipalata’s death has not been ascertained yet. “We have sent the body to hospital for post-mortem and a report is awaited. Reason behind the woman’s death can be confirmed only after the report comes in,” a senior cop of Jenapur PS expressed.
