3 tourists injured after being struck by lightning at Talasari-Udaypur beach in Odisha’s Balasore – N.F Times



Jaleswar: As many as three tourists including two from neighbouring West Bengal and one from Odisha sustained grievous injuries in an incident of lightning strike at Talasari-Udaypur beach under Bhogarai block and this police limits in Balasore district, today afternoon.

Identities of the injured tourists have not been ascertained yet, a senior police official said.

According to a source, a large number of tourists from and outside Balasore had thronged the beach.

The three injured tourists were rescued by some locals and immediately admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Condition of one of them is critical now, a doctor treating them expressed.

“We were playing music on sound box when the lightning striked. Three persons including my brother were injured in the incident. His condition is critical now,” a relative of the injured said.

Worth mentioning, with a trough and wind discontinuity running from interior Odisha to north Tamil Nadu, hailstorm, thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 KMPH is very likely to occur at one or two places over some districts of Odisha during the next 24 hours, the meteorological centre in Bhubaneswar forecasted earlier in the day.
