Negligence by driver caused Jajpur bus accident: Official – N.F Times

Jajpur: The bus accident in Odisha’s Jajpur district, which claimed at least five lives and left more than 30 others injured, occurred due to negligence on the part of its driver, an official said.

Lal Mohan Sethi, Additional Commissioner of Transport and Road Safety, said, “The bus was in good condition, having been registered in 2020 and recently cleared for fitness in March. However, the accident could have been caused whether due to reckless driving related to overtaking or the driver being distracted by a phone call while driving. The driver didn’t apply brakes, resulting in the severity of the accident.”

“Due to the loss of five lives, a criminal case will be filed against the driver, and stringent measures will be taken after a thorough investigation to prevent such negligence from occurring in the future,” he added.

Notably, the ill-fated vehicle, which was heading towards Kolkata from Puri, fell off Barabati flyover in the district on April 15 evening. There were around 50 passengers in the bus.
