Cuttack: Senior Congress leader Mohammed Moquim’s daughter Sofia Firdous is likely to contest from Cuttack-Barabati Assembly constituency segment. Sofia will soon apply to the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) for a ticket.
According to a private source, Mohammed Moquim will vie for her daughter’s candidature. He held a meeting of some Congress party workers earlier in the day and decided to support her. The sitting MLA Moquim took the opinions of his ardent supporters in the party, before taking this decision.
Worth mentioning, the Supreme Court yesterday suspended the sentence of the Congress MLA in Orissa Rural Housing Development Corporation (ORHDC) loan fraud case.
The Congress leader previously approached the apex court against Orissa High Court’s order affirming his three-year sentence by the special Vigilance judge in Bhubaneswar, in 2022.
The Special Judge had convicted Md. Moquim and a few others in the case.
