Bhubaneswar: The decision on school reopening is to be taken by concerned district collectors keeping in mind weather conditions, informed the School and Mass Education department on Monday.
As per the department, morning classes will be held from 6:30 AM till 10 AM up to June 20 if weather conditions are favourable and schools are allowed to open.
Earlier, amid the rising heatwave conditions in the state, the Odisha Secondary School Teachers’ Association (OSSTA) appealed to the newly elected Odisha BJP government to extend the summer vacation for students.
The OSSTA also demanded the summer holidays to be extended until the heatwave conditions normalize. If not for more days, the government should at least extend the holidays for another 3-4 days, they demanded.
The School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond said that District Collectors have been directed to take necessary decision as per the heatwave conditions.
