Mumbai: A woman was killed when a speeding BMW reportedly collided with a motorcycle-riding couple in Mumbai’s Worli area in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The victim was identified as 45-year-old Kaveri Nakhwa, who was riding with her husband to their home. The accident occurred around 5:30 am on Annie Besant Road in the Koliwada region, according to a Worli police station official. She was taken to Nair Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
The BMW was allegedly driven by Mihir Shah, the son of Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) leader Rajesh Shah. While Mihir Shah is currently evading capture, his father Rajesh has been detained.
Rajesh Shah’s driver, Rajrishi Rajendrasingh Bidawat, was also taken into custody. Bidawat was allegedly in the car at the time of the crash.
Police are now reviewing CCTV footage to ascertain who was driving at the accident’s occurrence.
The Chief Minister of Maharashtra has promised stringent measures will be taken in response to the incident. He declared, “Party affiliation is irrelevant. The perpetrator will face consequences.”
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and MLA Aditya Thackeray visited the Worli police station to meet with the bereaved husband, Pradeep Nakhava. Thackeray expressed his desire to avoid politicising the event, stating, “I do not wish to politicise this matter. The driver, regardless of identity, must be apprehended.”
