Jasmine Paolini scripted history by advancing to the women’s singles final at Wimbledon 2024 on Thursday, July 11. Ranked world no.7, Paolini overcame Donna Vekic with scores of 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 at the All England Club in London, marking her as the first Italian woman to reach the Wimbledon singles final.

Despite losing the first set, Paolini mounted an incredible comeback to win the second set 6-4. Facing a 1-3 deficit in the deciding set, she delivered an outstanding performance to push the match into a tie-breaker, where she triumphed even after falling behind twice.

The semifinal battle extended for two hours and 51 minutes, becoming the longest women’s semifinal ever played on Centre Court, providing fans with one of the most memorable matches in women’s singles during the Open Era.

Paolini is set to compete against the victor of the second semi-final match, which features world no.4 Elena Rybakina and former Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova, in the final on Saturday.

The 28-year-old from Italy had also made it to the finals in both the women’s singles and doubles at the French Open last month, continuing her impressive streak with consecutive Grand Slam finals appearances.
