Thiruvananthapuram: The body of a sanitation worker, who had gone missing on July 13, was found in a canal in Kerala’s capital city, Thiruvananthapuram, on Monday morning.
Identified as Joy, the sanitation worker was swept away while cleaning the Amayizhanchan canal on Saturday.
Following his missing information, a team of the Indian Navy, the local police, the fire brigade, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) launched a massive search and rescue operation on Monday morning to trace the sanitation worker.
His decomposed body was spotted in the canal on the Pazhavangadi-Thakaraparambu-Vanchiyoor road by other corporation sanitation workers, who immediately informed the police and the ward councillor.
The canal in which the body was found was a kilometre away from the sewage canal where Joy had last been seen. His body was later sent to a hospital for further examination.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed condolences over the death of the sanitation worker.
