At least six people, including four Pakistanis, were killed and nearly 30 others wounded in the shooting attack on a mosque. The attack occurred late on Monday in Wadi al-Kabir, a district east of Muscat, during a major religious event in Wadi al-Kabir for Shia Muslims.
Omani police reported on Tuesday that three gunmen responsible for the attack were killed, and the situation has been resolved. There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
The incident took place during Ashura, a significant day for Shia Muslims who commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad. Many Shia Muslims mark Ashura by visiting Imam Hussein’s shrine in Karbala, Iraq, while Sunni Muslims observe the day through fasting.
