Bhubaneswar: The first session of the 17th Odisha Legislative Assembly is scheduled to begin today and continue till September 13 in two phases.
As per the schedule announced in the official notification, the session will commence at Governor Raghubar Das’s address.
The first session is likely to be stormy with opposition BJD and Congress bracing up to attack the BJP govt over several issues, including the alleged assault on a government servant by Odisha Governor’s son and paddy MSP hike.
The BJP government will present the annual budget for the 2024-25 fiscal on July 25. This will be the BJP government’s maiden budget and will be presented by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi who is also in charge of the Finance Department. The election to the post of Deputy Speaker will be held on July 24.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made and 30 platoons of force deployed for the first session. As part of the arrangements, bomb squads, dog squads, striking forces and SOG Jawans have also been deployed. Armed police forces have also been deployed, and the entire Assembly complex has been put under CCTV surveillance.
Proper arrangements have also been made to ensure a smooth flow of traffic during the period and some restrictions will be enforced on the movement of vehicles near the Assembly building during the session.
