The movement commenced on this day in 1942, following Mahatma Gandhi’s call for British withdrawal from India, urging his compatriots to adopt a “do or die” stance in their quest for independence.
Despite the British arresting Gandhi and other key Congress leaders, the movement expanded naturally and accelerated the British exit after World War II concluded.
