Over 60 Students Taken Ill After Mid-Day Meal in Jharsuguda School – N.F Times

Jharsuguda: Over 60 students of Jamera UGME school in Jharsuguda district fell ill after consuming a mid-day meal on Saturday.

The students reported stomach pain and vomiting after consuming the mid-day meal. They were immediately rushed to a nearby health centre. Afterwards, they were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital. The incident has sparked outrage among parents, who have demanded action against the school authorities.

As per sources, today, the students were served egg curry and rice as part of the mid-day meal programme. They claimed that the egg had a foul smell, but they were still served the meal.

Block Resource Coordinator Rabindra Sahu stated, “The children received rice and egg curry today. Upon complaints of stomach pain post-consumption, I directed the sick students to be taken to the hospital. They are now receiving treatment and are safe. The children mentioned the egg smelled bad, but appeared fine internally. We are looking into the matter.”

The school chairman admitted the egg curry was spoiled and should not have been served, suspecting food poisoning and calling for an in-depth investigation.

The students are currently being treated at the hospital and are safe. This incident has highlighted concerns over the quality of school-provided mid-day meals and the imperative for enhanced food safety oversight.
