Agartala: The Border Security Force (BSF) has detained seven Bangladeshi nationals, including a woman and a toddler, in Tripura, seizing Bangladeshi and US currencies from them.
Troopers stationed at Harnakhola in West Tripura district, during the night between Sunday and Monday, captured the Bangladeshi nationals and the toddler as they attempted to cross the border fencing.
According to the BSF spokesperson, four of the detainees, including the woman and her child, hail from Brahmanbaria district, while the other two are from Moulvibazar district.
The spokesperson added that 1.5 lakh Bangladeshi taka and 300 US dollars were found in their possession.
Following unrest and violence in Bangladesh, in the past three months, authorities including the Government Railway Police, the BSF, and the Tripura Police have arrested 257 Bangladeshi nationals and 32 Rohingyas at Agartala railway station and other locations in Tripura for illegal entry into India.
The BSF spokesperson mentioned that in recent weeks, the force has thwarted numerous infiltration attempts across various northeastern border areas and apprehended several Indian touts and human traffickers. In light of the ongoing turmoil in Bangladesh, the BSF has heightened surveillance along the India-Bangladesh border and is working in close collaboration with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
To combat cross-border crime and unauthorized entry, the BSF has adopted a comprehensive strategy, including the deployment of advanced hand-held thermal imagers and drones.
BSF Director General Daljit Singh Chawdhary, Additional Director General of BSF Eastern Command Ravi Gandhi, and the Inspector Generals of the BSF’s four northeastern frontiers are making regular visits to the border regions to meticulously assess the readiness of the troops.
