New Delhi: Senior Malayalam actor Siddique resigned from the post of general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), a prominent actors’ body in Kerala, following rape and sexual assault allegations from an actress.
“Yes. I have tendered my official resignation to the president of the organisation, Mohanlal. Since there were allegations against me, I have decided not to continue in the post and resigned,” Siddique told a television channel.
The controversy erupted after a female actor accused Siddique of sexually abusing her under the pretext of a movie discussion. These allegations have surfaced during a turbulent period for the Malayalam film industry, following the release of the Justice Hema Committee report. The report highlighted numerous incidents of casting couch practices and sexual abuse within the industry, bringing to light the widespread harassment and exploitation of women in Malayalam cinema.
The allegations against Siddique have intensified calls for accountability and justice within the industry, as the report has already sparked widespread demands for action against those involved in such misconduct.
