New York: The UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution to proclaim July 6 as ‘World Rural Development Day.’
The resolution, adopted unanimously on Friday, aims to emphasize the vital role of rural development and transformation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, according to a report by Xinhua news agency.
The General Assembly calls upon all UN member states, entities within the UN system, and various international and regional organizations, as well as non-governmental organizations, individuals, and other key stakeholders, to celebrate World Rural Development Day. This celebration involves showcasing and advancing tangible initiatives aimed at the sustainable progress of rural regions and communities.
Furthermore, it encourages all pertinent stakeholders to engage in and bolster World Rural Development Day and implores the UN Secretary-General to notify all member states, UN system organizations, and other significant stakeholders to ensure proper commemoration.
Additionally, the General Assembly passed a resolution named “United Nations Games,” which mandates the annual organization of the United Nations Games. It also extends an invitation to relevant stakeholders to voluntarily contribute to a trust fund established for the Games.
