Kalahandi: The carcass of an elephant was recovered inside a field near Regadimal village under the Narla forest range in Kalahandi district on Friday.
Locals first spotted the carcass and informed the Forest officials. Narla Forester Bhabani Naik immediately rushed to the scene and sent information to the Ranger and the district administrators. The Officials arrived at the spot and launched an investigation into the incident. However, the exact cause of the death is yet to be ascertained.
The herd consisted of one tusker, one baby elephant, and two mother elephants. On Thursday, this group of four emerged from the Chhitkel forest and was seen feeding on crops in the farmland, as disclosed by a local farmer. The definitive cause of death will be determined following a post-mortem, according to a forest official.
