Mumbai: Following his remarkable comeback to Test cricket, Rishabh Pant has re-entered the ICC Test rankings at the 6th position after a stellar performance in the Chennai Test against Bangladesh.

The update on September 25, Wednesday, also witnessed Virat Kohli falling out of the top 10, while captain Rohit Sharma dropped five places.

In addition to Pant, Shubman Gill and Ravichandran Ashwin have made notable advances in the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings after each scored a century in the opening match of their ICC World Test Championship series against Bangladesh in Chennai. Pant returned to the rankings in sixth place with scores of 39 and 109. Gill ascended to a career-high 14th position, moving up five places following his unbeaten 119 in the second innings. Ashwin, with a vital 113 in the first innings, climbed seven places to 72nd.

Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, who formed a crucial 199-run partnership in the first innings, have climbed up the rankings following India’s 280-run win. Jadeja’s score of 86 propelled him three places to 37th in the batting rankings. Ashwin reinforced his position as the top bowler, gaining a point after claiming six wickets in the second innings, while Jadeja rose to sixth with five wickets in the match.

In the all-rounder rankings, Jadeja remains at the pinnacle with a personal best of 475 points, and Ashwin, now second, has accrued an additional 48 points, totalling 370. Another significant ranking shift saw Yashasvi Jaiswal enter the top 5 for the first time, continuing his exceptional form in Test cricket.

Kohli and Rohit Sharma experienced difficulties during the Chennai Test, struggling with the bat in both innings. Rohit scored 6 and 5, and Kohli 6 and 17, which resulted in the Indian captain dropping five spots to 10th. Following the recent update, Kohli fell from 7th to 12th in the rankings, while Joe Root remains the top-ranked Test batter.
