Supreme Court to Hear Petitions on Alleged Animal Fat in Tirupati Laddus on September 30 – N.F Times

New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India is set to hear petitions on September 30 regarding the alleged use of animal fat in the preparation of the famous Tirupati laddus. The petitions, filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy and former Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) chairman YV Subba Reddy, seek a court-monitored probe into the matter.

The controversy began when Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu claimed that substandard ingredients, including animal fat, were used in the laddus during the previous YSRCP government. This allegation has sparked significant public outcry and political debate, with the YSRCP dismissing the claims as politically motivated.

The Tirupati laddus, a sacred offering at the Sri Venkateswara temple, have been a symbol of devotion for centuries. The allegations have raised concerns about the sanctity and quality of the prasadam. In response, the TTD has conducted lab tests, which reportedly confirmed the presence of animal fat and other impurities in the ghee used.

The Supreme Court’s hearing will involve Justices B. R. Gavai and K. V. Viswanathan, who will review the petitions and decide on the next steps. The petitioners are requesting a detailed forensic report and a thorough investigation into the procurement and quality of the ingredients used.

Despite the controversy, the sale of Tirupati laddus has remained unaffected, with over 16 lakh laddus sold in just five days. Devotees continue to express their faith in the sanctity of the prasadam, while awaiting the court’s decision on this sensitive issue.
