Perth: India secured a commanding 295-run victory in the first Test, bowling Australia out for 238 on the fourth day. This win puts India ahead 1-0 in the five-match series.
The Indian team swiftly wrapped up the match after reducing Australia to 227 for eight by tea. The Australian side, pursuing a target of 534, was dismissed soon after the interval.
Travis Head, with 89 runs, and Mitchell Marsh, scoring 47, resisted valiantly in what was otherwise a lacklustre batting display by the home team. Alex Carey, who made 36 runs, was the final wicket to fall.
In the afternoon session, Australia lost three wickets following Mohammed Siraj’s spell leaving them at 104 for five at lunch. India staged an impressive recovery after being dismissed for 150 on the first day, holding Australia to just 104 runs in their first innings.
The second Test is set to commence in Adelaide on December 6.
